256 Queen Street is a 638-bed purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development situated in the heart of Auckland’s CBD.
The $201 million development, by Precinct Properties, will comprise studio-style student rooms each with a kitchen and bathroom over 32 levels and will target a 5-star Green Star ‘NZ Excellence’ rating.
Located near both the University of Auckland and AUT, the former Auckland Savings Bank Headquarters dates from 1884 and has a Category 1 Historic Place listing. The new development will retain and restore heritage features, including the historic façade and ornate ceiling and is scheduled for completion to coincide with the 2029 academic year.
Urban Outcomes Director Natasha Possenniskie will act as Engineer to the Contract under a design and build 3910:2013 contract, alongside Icon as main contractor.
