Auckland Airport was officially opened in January 1966 and has since grown into one of the largest international airports in Australasia. It is a hub of economic growth, where more than 100 businesses operate and over 30,000 people work.
With the airport nearing 60 years old and facing capacity and usability issues, Auckland Airport has announced a $2.2b redevelopment project. This major project for New Zealand involves the redevelopment of the airport to fully integrate a new domestic terminal into the existing international terminal. The new domestic terminal will incorporate 12 aircraft gates with electric charging, a state-of-the-art check-in area, smart baggage system and break-out and retail spaces, along with a five-minute indoor domestic to international transfer time.
Urban Outcomes Limited Director Natasha Possenniskie acted as the independent Engineer to the Contract (EtC) for the Domestic Processor Early Works stage of the redevelopment. Working alongside Engineer's Representative, Beca, and Main Contractor, Hawkins, Natasha provided EtC services for the early works to prepare the site for construction of the new terminal and help de-risk the main project through an Early Contractor Involvement procurement route. This stage was completed in 2024, with the wider redevelopment expected to open to the public in 2028/2029.
